JLG E450AJ Tilt Alarm Active on Level Ground
Fault Codes & Symptoms
Tilt alarm active with functions disabled on level ground. Related symptoms: - Loss of boom and drive functions - Constant audible alarm The operator reports the tilt alarm is going off and the machine won't lift, even when parked on a flat concrete floor in the shop.
Confirmed cause: The tilt sensor was loose due to a missing mounting bolt, causing it to report an incorrect chassis angle. Repair performed: Installed a new correct-grade bolt and lock washer. Torqued both mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specification. Verification: Cycled machine power. Raised and lowered the boom multiple times without any tilt alarm. Used the service tool to confirm the sensor reading remained stable and accurate. Drove the machine onto a slight incline to confirm the tilt alarm would activate and reset correctly when returned to level ground. Technician notes: - This machine had high hours in a rental fleet and was subject to significant vibration. - The mounting bolts for this sensor do not have a clear line of sight. A mirror and a flashlight were necessary to inspect them properly. - Always check component mounting and security before performing extensive electrical tests.
