Volvo L45H Slow to Rev, No Power, No Codes

Fault Codes & Symptoms

No active codes

Engine is slow to gain RPM and has low power under load. Related symptoms: - Excessive black smoke under load (if restriction is severe). - Noticeable turbocharger whistle or whine due to air being pulled past the restriction. The machine feels weak and is slow to rev up when you step on the throttle. It can barely climb a small grade without stalling.

Verified Repair

Confirmed cause: Internal delamination and collapse of the turbocharger air intake hose, causing a major air restriction. Repair performed: Replaced the failed turbocharger air intake hose. Cleaned the residual oil from the air filter housing. Installed new primary and secondary air filters. Verification: Performed an engine stall test. The engine now maintains RPM against a full hydraulic load, as expected. A road test confirmed that engine throttle response and power under load were restored to normal. Technician notes: - The collapsed hose was not visible externally. It was only found by removing the hose and inspecting it internally. - The oil in the air filter likely came from high crankcase pressure caused by the engine struggling against the intake restriction. It is a symptom of the root cause, not the cause itself. - Always check the entire intake tract for integrity, not just the filter elements.
