Intermittent loss of platform controls Related symptoms: - Erratic function of platform controls - Uncommanded machine movements (rare) - Multiple unrelated fault codes The screen at the platform says communication loss when I drive the machine. I have to cycle power to get it to work again, but it just comes back.
Confirmed cause: Internal break in the CAN High and CAN Low wires inside the main harness jacket. The break was located at the point where the harness routes over the main boom pivot, an area of high movement and stress. Repair performed: Replaced the entire turntable-to-platform harness. While a splice repair is possible, harness replacement is the more reliable long-term solution as other wires in the same area have been subjected to the same stress. Verification: After harness replacement, the dynamic CAN bus resistance test was repeated. The resistance reading remained stable while raising, lowering, and extending the boom, as well as driving and steering the machine. A two-hour operational test confirmed no recurrence of the communication loss error. Technician notes: - The internal wire break was not visible from the outside; the harness jacket was intact. This type of failure requires dynamic testing (flexing the harness) to detect. - When diagnosing intermittent CAN faults, always manipulate the harness through its full range of motion while monitoring resistance or signal. - Check for any sharp edges or binding points in the harness routing that could have contributed to the failure and correct them before installing the new harness.
