Deutz TCD 3.6 DPF Differential Pressure Fault After Cleaning
Fault Codes & Symptoms
DPF differential pressure fault active Related symptoms: - Engine derate - Forced regeneration will not initiate - High soot level reading that does not match reality Engine has a "check engine" or "emissions system" light on. The code indicates a DPF differential pressure problem, but the DPF was just professionally cleaned.
Confirmed cause: The "Ash Accumulator Reset" or "DPF Replacement" service routine was not performed after the cleaned DPF was installed. The ECM was still using the learned offset from the previously clogged filter, causing it to read a pressure differential that was not actually present. Repair performed: Performed the DPF Replacement/Ash Accumulator Reset procedure using the appropriate OEM diagnostic software. No parts were replaced. Verification: Re-installed the cleaned DPF. Started the engine and monitored the differential pressure value; it was now within the manufacturer's specification at idle and high idle. A forced regeneration was initiated and completed successfully. No fault codes returned after an extended operational test. Technician notes: - This is a common scenario when a DPF is cleaned or replaced without telling the ECM. The engine controller learns and adapts to a slowly clogging filter over time. If this learned offset is not cleared, the ECM will misinterpret the flow of the new/clean filter and set a fault. - Always confirm if a software reset/relearn is required for aftertreatment component replacement. It can save significant diagnostic time. - Before suspecting the sensor itself, check for the required software resets. Many modern sensors are accurate, but the ECM's interpretation is the key.
