Scissor Lift Platform Controls Inoperative, Ground Controls Work
Fault Codes & Symptoms
No function from platform controls. Related symptoms: - Intermittent loss of platform functions. - Error codes related to platform controller communication (if applicable). - No power/lights on the platform control box. The operator reports that the machine will not lift, drive, or steer from the platform control box. The ground controls work to raise and lower the platform.
Confirmed cause: Internal break in the coiled platform control cable, resulting in loss of power and ground to the platform controller. Repair performed: Replaced the coiled platform control cable. Ensured proper routing and strain relief to prevent premature failure. Verification: After replacing the cable, all platform functions (lift, drive, steer) were tested and operated normally. The machine passed a full function test from both the platform and ground controls. Technician notes: - The coiled control cable is a high-wear item on scissor lifts. Damage often occurs from catching on job site debris or from excessive stretching. - When diagnosing control issues, always check the simplest and most common failure points first. E-stops and control cables are primary suspects. - Intermittent electrical issues are frequently caused by damaged wiring or loose connections.
