Mecalac TN1600 Overheating in Dusty Conditions

Fault Codes & Symptoms

No active codes

Engine and hydraulic system overheating Related symptoms: - Loss of hydraulic power when hot - Engine derates due to high temperature The machine overheats and loses power after about 30 minutes of working in our dusty yard. We have to stop and let it cool down.

Verified Repair

Confirmed cause: Damaged wiring harness leading to the fan reversing solenoid. The harness was routed near a frame member and had chafed through, causing an open circuit. Repair performed: Repaired the damaged wires using solder and heat-shrink connectors. The harness was then secured away from the frame edge with a new P-clamp to prevent future chafing. Verification: Started the machine and allowed it to reach operating temperature. Activated the manual fan reverse switch; the fan direction reversed immediately. Ran the machine in its normal dusty work environment for over an hour with no signs of overheating. Technician notes: - The reversing fan system is critical in high-debris applications. If it fails, the coolers will blind over quickly regardless of manual cleaning frequency. - Always check for harness routing and chafe points, especially for components mounted on the engine or radiator module where vibration is constant. - The operator was not aware of the manual reversing feature and had never used it, so they did not report that it was inoperative.
