Kubota SVL90-2 Engine Overheating Silt Removal — Diagnostic Guide

Kubota·SVL90-2·Kubota V3800-DI-T·Beginner·1-2 hours·0 views

The engine temperature warning light illuminates, accompanied by audible buzzers, under moderate operation, forcing the loader into safe engine derate.

Symptoms

  • Engine temperature gauge needle climbs into the red zone
  • Coolant liquid boiling over into the reservoir reserve tank
  • Engine loses power output and exhaust soot emissions increase
  • Hydraulic fan spins slower than specified under load

Possible Causes

  • Radiator and hydraulic cooler fins clogged with debris, silt, or dust
  • Engine cooling fan drive belt slipping or hydraulic fan motor worn
  • Thermostat failing to open or radiator cap venting prematurely
  • Air locks inside the closed engine cooling loop

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. 1
    Inspect Cooler Fin Blockages
Open the rear engine door. Check the radiator, hydraulic oil cooler, and A/C condenser cores. Shine a powerful inspection light from the inner shroud side; if light is blocked, the radiator is clogged with dirt, seed heads, or engine oil residue.
  2. 2
    Verify Fan Drive Operation
Check the belt tension on mechanical fan designs, or verify hydraulic pressure on hydraulic-drive fan systems. Verify and record fan rotational speed (RPM) using a non-contact photo tachometer at high idle.
  3. 3
    Test Thermostat Opening Temperature
Remove the upper radiator hose connection at the exhaust housing side, extract the thermostat, and place it in hot water. Use a thermometer to verify it starts opening near 82C (180F) and is fully open at 95C (203F). Replacement is required if it fails to open.
  4. 4
Pressure Test the Rad Cap and Head Gasket
Connect a radiator cooling system pressure tester to the radiator filler neck. Pump up the system to 13 psi; check that it holds pressure. Start the engine and watch for rapid gauge needle pulsing, which indicates a failed head gasket.

Common Repairs

  • Deep-cleaning cooling cores with pressurized water and cleaner
  • Replacing the engine thermostat and replacing old coolant
  • Replacing the radiator pressure cap
  • Adjusting or replacing the fan belt and fan pulley assembly

Safety Precautions

  • Never loosen the radiator cap while the engine is hot. Liquid coolant is under pressure and can cause severe burns.
  • Keep fingers, loose hair, and diagnostic tools far away from turning fan blades.

Required Tools

  • Cooling system pressure tester kit
  • Laser photo-tachometer
  • Radiator cleaning comb and detergent wash
