Takeuchi TB175 — Travel Motor High-Speed (Rabbit Mode) Inoperative

The excavator travels at low speed only and does not shift into high speed (Rabbit Mode) when the button on the travel lever is pressed.

Symptoms

  • Travel speed remains constant regardless of 2-speed travel setting
  • Active rabbit travel indicator panel lamp illuminates, but travel velocity is unchanged
  • Bland travel response with hydraulic system load bogs under slight hills

Possible Causes

  • Faulty high-speed travel solenoid valve coil or broken harness wire

Diagnostic Procedure

    Locate the 2-speed travel solenoid valve on control manifold. Disconnect the electrical connector, measure coil resistance (target 10-15 Ohms), and verify 12V key-on power is delivered when travel high-speed switch is loaded.

    Install a 1,000 PSI hydraulic pressure gauge into 2-speed pilot shift line tap on travel motor casing. Actuate high-speed travel; shift pressure should rise to approx. 450 PSI.

    Isolate Swivel Joint Transfer Paths
    If shift pressure is absent at travel motor, test pressures immediately upstream of central rotary swivel connection joint. A pressure drop across connection points to deteriorated internal swivel seals.

    Remove shift valve cover at travel motor. Inspect shift piston and spring assembly for mechanical binding or broken return springs that prevent travel motor tilting.
