Kubota BX23S Seat Safety Switch Failure — Diagnostic Guide

Symptoms

• Engine starts normally but cuts off when releasing the handbrake
• The engine cuts out mid-operation when hitting a bump in the field
• The tractor dies when engaging the mid-mounted or rear PTO

Possible Causes

• Loose or corroded electrical connector under the seat slider
• Internal corrosion of the seat switch plunger mechanism
• Broken wiring leading along the seat hinge articulation point
• Damaged OPD (Operator Presence Detection) relay

Diagnostic Procedure

   Perform Seat Switch Visual Inspection

   Tilt the operator seat base forward. Visually inspect the underside contact switch. Clean out any packed mud, dirt, or twigs that may prevent the seat switch plunger from fully depressing.

   Wiggle the electrical wire harness connection while testing continuity. Look for broken wire strands under the insulation wrap, which frequently occur at the hinge elbow.
