Bobcat T86 7-Pin Attachment Control Communication Diagnostic

When connecting high-intensity modern attachments (such as high-flow snowblowers, tree shears, or angle brooms), attachment solenoid controls fail to respond. The in-cab controller fails to register that an attachment has been coupled.

Symptoms

  • No feedback or reactions when pressing joystick attachment buttons
  • 'No ACD Active' alert displayed on the Bobcat console panel
  • Uncontrolled intermittent behavior of attachment solenoid functions

Possible Causes

  • Moisture intrusion or corroded contact terminals inside the 7-pin harness plug
  • Severed 12V or CAN signal wire in the wiring loom on the lift arm
  • Defective Attachment Control Device (ACD) electronic node on the attachment side

Diagnostic Procedure

    Clean and Inspect Plug Terminals
    Visually inspect the female socket on the auxiliary bracket of the T86 lift arm and the male plug on the attachment. Check for green copper oxidation, recessed pins, or water. Thoroughly spray terminals with a specialized fast-drying electronics cleaner.

    Perform Pin-Out Voltage Verifications
    Turn the T86 ignition switch to RUN (Engine off). Ground the negative lead of terminal probe. Pins B and D supply electrical Ground. Pin A provides 12 Volts Accessory supply power. Verify Pin A reads battery potential. If cold/dead, trace down the Aux Harness 15A fuse inside the main power bay.

    Using an oscilloscope or digital multimeter set to duty-cycle / Hz, check Pin F (CAN High) and Pin G (CAN Low) relative to Ground with ACD plugged in. Signals should dance rapidly in millivolts, showing live serial bus communication packets.

    Test Lift-Arm Flex Harness for Breaks
    Connect a bypass test jumper harness to the 7-pin connection and run a continuous continuity wiggle test from the main lift arm cross-member junction back to the loader ACD controller module. Watch for temporary resistance spikes indicating broken inner wire strands.
