Bobcat T86 D34 Engine DPF Regeneration Failure Diagnostic

Bobcat·T86·Bobcat D34·Advanced·2-4 hours·0 views

The Bobcat T86 engine will not complete or initiate an active Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment (DPF) regeneration. The system signals high soot loading levels and drops the engine into dynamic performance derate.

Symptoms

  • Solid or flashing DPF system icon on the main screen panel
  • Engine lacks power under heavy operations (limp-home mode active)
  • Exhaust tailpipe temperature remains surprisingly low during forced regen attempts

Possible Causes

  • Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor reading incorrect temperatures
  • Clogged or leaking DPF differential pressure (Delta-P) sensing tubes
  • Leaking EGR thermal control valve preventing heat build-up
  • Defective exhaust burner / fuel dosing injector

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. 1
    Retrieve Exhaust Temp Action Values
Connect Bobcat Service Analyzer. Pull real-time engine sensor values. Run the exhaust temperature baseline check. EGT sensor 1, 2, and 3 should display within 10 degrees C of ambient temperature on a completely cold engine. Replace any sensor showing out-of-range drift.
  2. 2
    Examine DPF Differential Pressure Tubes
Locate the soot sensor/differential pressure module. Trace the steel sensor tubes back to the DPF canister. Check for cracks, loose compression fittings, or heavy internal carbon blockage. Clear steel tubes with low-pressure air if carbon-blocked.
  3. 3
Inspect EGR Valve and Intake Throttle Operation
During active regeneration generation, the intake throttle valve limits fresh air flow to raise combustion temperatures. Use Bobcat diagnostics to command the throttle plate from 0 percent to 100 percent load. Confirm smooth mechanical sweep without binding.
  4. 4
    Perform Hydrocarbon DPF Dosing Test
Check the operation of the aftertreatment HC doser injector. Check the supply fuel pressure to the doser. Actuate a manual cylinder balance and dosing test to ensure fuel atomizes cleanly into the exhaust stream ahead of the DOC.

Common Repairs

  • Cleaning carbon buildup from DPF delta-pressure tube sensors
  • Replacing EGT temperature sensors
  • Replacing the intake throttle valve actuator
  • Performing chemical-bath or thermal DPF cleanout profile

Safety Precautions

  • Never perform a manual stationary regen inside an enclosed workspace without direct exterior venting.
  • Exhaust components can exceed 600 degrees C during regen. Keep dry debris and flammable items clear of the tailpipe area.

Required Tools

  • Bobcat Service Analyzer Analyzer
  • Exhaust Backpressure gauge adapter set
  • High-temperature anti-seize compound
