Bobcat T86 Drive Tripping / Left Track Track Motor Creep Diagnostic

The Bobcat T86 pulls heavily to the left or right when driving in a straight line, or one track slowly drifts or creeps when the SJC joysticks are released.

Symptoms

  • Loader drifts left or right when driving straight on level ground
  • One track continues to creep slowly forward or backward with joysticks centered
  • Frequent steering corrections required to maintain a straight path

Possible Causes

  • Incorrect joystick electronic calibration offsets
  • Debris or sticking in the pilot servo valve control block
  • Internal bypass leakage across the drive motor displacement piston

Diagnostic Procedure

    Perform SJC Joystick Calibration
    Connect Bobcat Service Analyzer. Locate the Selectable Joystick Control (SJC) system calibration section. Follow the guided software steps to recalibrate the joysticks. Perform a neutral system sweep to register joystick center voltage.

    Install two 1,000 PSI pressure gauges onto the servo pilot ports on the hydrostatic pump assembly. Check pilot pressures while running the engine at full RPM with joysticks at neutral. Pressures must be zero at neutral. If any pilot pressure is present, check for a sticking servo valve spool or mechanical steering linkage misalignment.

    Disconnect the casing drain return hose from the creeping track motor. Direct the open case drain line into a clean, graduated container. Start engine and drive the machine against a solid barrier. Measure the bypass volume into the container. An excessive fluid return rate indicates high internal oil bypass, meaning worn components.

    Inspect Pump Dynamic Stroke Centering
    Inspect the centering cradle and centering spring inside the main hydrostatic pump. A damaged or weakened spring can prevent the pump swashplate from returning to exact neutral, causing continuous oil flow and track drift.
