JCB 535-125 Steering Mode Alignment and Sync Failures

Symptoms

• Steering wheel drifts excessively when travelling in 4-wheel mode
• Cab indicator steering alignment LED lights fail to illuminate or flash erratically
• Front and rear axles point in different directions during tracking
• Frequent tire scrub/wear on dense pavement surfaces

Possible Causes

• Failed proximity steering alignment switch sensors on the axle housings
• Damaged sensor wiring harness from hitting debris during operations
• Sticky steering mode selector hydraulic valve spool cartridge
• Internal bypass leakage across the steering cylinder piston pack

Diagnostic Procedure

   Perform Proximity Sensor Sensor Gap Inspection

   Locate the alignment proximity indicator switches mounted above the steer knuckles on both front and rear axles. Clean off any mud or grease. Verify that the physical gap between the sensor face and the metal sensing plate on the steering linkage is between 1.5mm to 2.5mm when the wheels are pointing fully straight forward.

   Verify power (typically 12V or 24V supply) is reaching the sensor plugs. Switch the ignition on, pass a ferrous steel tool across the face of the sensor, and confirm that the LED indicator on the back of the sensor body lights up and shuts off reliably, and that the signal wire changes state.

   Locate the steering change solenoid block behind the main carriage. Measure the solenoid resistance parameters (standards range 10-14 ohms). Check if the directional block is shifting and holding when different steering configurations (2W, 4W, Crab) are clicked at the cabin interface.

   Recalibrate Wheel Straightness Tracking

   Initiate the physical manual alignment test sequence. Put the vehicle in 2-Wheel steer, turn wheels until the steering proximity switch is lit, lock out the steer selector, transition to 4-Wheel mode, and match the opposing axle straight line carefully. Conduct a test drive to see if the alignment continues to hold phase.
