Diagnostic Procedure

    Perform Preliminary Oil and Strainer Inspection
    Park the machine on level ground, lower all attachments, shut down the engine, and safely release hydraulic tank pressure. Draw an oil sample to check for aeration or water contamination. Remove and inspect the hydraulic suction strainer from the reservoir for metallic debris, which indicates pump mechanical failure.

    Install Diagnostic Pressure Gauges
    Connect a calibrated 0-400 bar (0-5800 PSI) hydraulic pressure gauge to the auxiliary pressure test port located on the main loader valve block or pump outlet manifold.

    Test Hydraulic Main Relief Valve (MRV) Pressure
    Warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature (approx. 50°C/122°F). Run the engine at full throttle (2200 RPM) and bottom out (deadhead) the loader bucket rollback function. Read the gauge; it should register within factory specifications (typically 250 bar +/- 5 bar). If the pressure is low, proceed to the MRV adjustment step.

    Adjust and Re-Test Main Relief Valve
    Locate the MRV on the loader valve block. Loosen locknut and turn adjusting screw clockwise 1/4 turn while observing the pressure gauge. If pressure increases immediately, adjust to factory spec. If turning the screw results in no change to pressure, the relief valve cartridge is either damaged/debris-loaded, or the hydraulic pump has excessive internal leakage.

    Perform Pump Flow and Cylinder Bypass Isolation Tests
    Connect a flow meter in-line with the pump discharge port to isolate pump efficiency. If flow drops significantly under pressure load, replace the pump. If pump flow is good, bypass heat test each cylinder by holding the control lever and thermal-imaging the cylinder barrel; a hot spot indicates oil blowing past internal piston seals.

  • Rebuilding or replacing the Main Relief Valve (MRV) cartridge
  • Replacing the primary tandem hydraulic gear pump
  • Repacking cylinder piston seals and polishing scored rods

  • Relieve all stored hydraulic pressure before cracking any hydraulic line or fitting
  • Wear high-pressure rated safety goggles and heavy gloves to prevent fluid injection injuries
  • Always secure loader arms and backhoe booms with heavy duty safety locks before working underneath them
