JCB 190T Skid Steer Track Drive Hydraulic Lock Diagnostic

Symptoms

• Tracks remains completely locked when attempting to drive forward or reverse
• Red parking brake light on the console stays illuminated despite pressing release rocker
• Engine bogs down slightly when attempting to activate drive, indicating pressure buildup
• Audible hiss from hydraulic lock/bypass block when joy-stick is pushed

Possible Causes

• Failed solenoid valve coil on the park brake charge pressure circuit
• Faulty seat-bar or seat occupant safety interlock switch
• Loss of internal charge pressure required to lift hydraulic sprag/multi-disc brakes
• Damaged safety lock harness wiring under the floor plate

Diagnostic Procedure

   Check Seat-Bar and Seat Switch Interlock Operation

   Use a digital multimeter to verify microswitch functionality on the seat lap-bar detent and the operator cushion load pressure contact. Check if the controller inputs change status from 'Open' to 'Closed' when sitting in cab with restraint down.

   Locate and Inspect Park Brake Release Solenoid

   Swing up the canopy cab to access the hydrostatic pump compartment. Locate the park brake release block on top of the pump assembly. Clean off any mud or grease, check for wire corrosion, and test for 12V at the coil when the release button is toggled on.

   Measure Charge Hydraulic Loop Pressure

   Temporarily insert a 0-50 bar (0-725 PSI) gauge into the diagnostic port on the hydrostatic valve block. Crank the engine and run at high idle. Charge pressure must read at least 20-25 bar (290-362 PSI) to override brake spring pressure; if low, the brakes cannot mechanically unlock.

   Directly Power Solenoid for Override Verification

   Gently apply 12 volts directly from the auxiliary battery terminal to the park brake valve coil block. If the hydraulic system clicks, releases, and allows the tracks to spin freely, the issue is safely confined to the cabin controls, switches, or chassis ECM wiring harness.

• Replacing the safety seat-switch sensor or lap-bar microswitch
• Replacing the park brake release solenoid coil or internal valve spool
• Repairing chaffed or cut electrical ground wires beneath the cab floor assembly

Safety Precautions

• Never engage in diagnostics beneath a skid steer cab unless the heavy mechanical cab lock struts are securely locked in place
• Elevate the skid steer tracks off the floor with heavy chassis blocks to execute track movement testing safely without hazard of runway
• Clear all tools and personnel from the immediate track area

• Heavy frame hydraulic jacks and support blocking blocks
• 0-50 bar hydraulic gauge line
• Alligator test-jump wire set
