JLG 600AJ Charging System Failure and Low Voltage Faults

The engine operates, but battery charge level decays. As electrical voltage drops below 11.5V DC, the JLG control system behaves erratically, throwing multiple safety shutdown codes and dropping mechanical functions due to low solenoid coil energy.

Symptoms

  • Battery charge indicator warning light remains illuminated on the Ground Console panel
  • Control system resets when multiple high-amperage solenoid valves are operated simultaneously
  • Frequent system shutdown with communication failure codes (ADE system glitching)
  • Starter motor turns sluggishly or clicks without turning the engine over

Diagnostic Procedure

    Check voltage output directly at the heavy B+ terminal on the back of the alternator. Compare this directly to the battery's positive post voltage. If there is a difference greater than 0.3V, look for corroded joints along the main starter cable shunt.

    Verify Excitation Signal (D+ / IGN Pin)
    Disconnect the small harness connector on the alternator. Turn key switch ON. Check for 12V DC on the excitation wire. Without this starter signal, the internal alternator field coils cannot energize to produce charging current.

  • Installing a replacement serpentine belt and automatic belt tensioner bracket
  • Cleaning corrosion and re-torquing connections at the master battery disconnect switch
