JLG 600AJ Platform Footswitch Interlock Malfunction
JLG·600AJ·Deutz D2.9 L4 / GM 3.0L·Beginner·1 hour·0 views
Platform controls are completely unresponsive when the footswitch is depressed, or the engine shuts down immediately upon stepping on the footswitch. If the platform controller does not register the transition of the footswitch contacts within the programmed timing windows, boom and drive actions are prohibited.
Symptoms
- Platform controls have power (display is ON), but joystick inputs do not move the machine
- System alerts with a continuous alarm or specific flash code when footswitch is depressed
- Engine cuts out when the footswitch is stepped on
- Work light/display shows footswitch inactive despite being pressed
Possible Causes
- Debris or mud packed under the mechanical actuator plate of the footswitch
- Failed internal microswitch or loose wiring terminals inside the footswitch enclosure
- Misaligned actuator lever or broken return spring inside the foot pedal assembly
- Open circuit or short circuit in the boom cable track wiring harness routing up to the platform
Diagnostic Procedure
- 1Perform Physical and Mechanical InspectionDe-energize the machine and physically inspect underneath the platform foot pedal. Clear out any packed dirt, ice, or stones that prevent full travel of the pedal plate.
- 2Conduct Footswitch Contact Continuity TestOpen the footswitch enclosure cover. Identify the normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) contact blocks. Actuate the pedal manually and measure continuity across the terminals. Replace microswitches if contacts fail to cycle cleanly.
- 3Check Platform Control Box Harness JunctionsDisconnect the platform box connector. Use a multimeter to perform a resistance check on pins dedicated to the footswitch circuit down to the junction box to check for broken/shorted conductors.
- 4Monitor ADE Footswitch Signal StatusConnect a JLG analyzer to the platform diagnostic port. Access 'Diagnostics > Platform Controls' and monitor the real-time status of the 'Footswitch' input parameter as you toggle the pedal.
Common Repairs
- Replacing the internal microswitch assembly
- Replacing the entire heavy-duty cast aluminum foot pedal assembly
- Repairing chaffed wires near the platform harness pivot strain relief
Safety Precautions
- Do not bypass or wedge the footswitch down for testing; this is a critical safety bypass violation
- Ensure all functions are operated from the ground console during testing where possible to avoid accidental movement
Required Tools
- JLG Handheld Analyzer
- Digital Multimeter
- Torx & Hex Allen Key Sets
- Contact Cleaner Spray
