JLG 600AJ Platform Load Sensing System (LSS) Calibration and Faults

JLG·600AJ·Deutz D2.9 L4 / GM 3.0L·Advanced·1-2 hours·0 views

The boom lift is disabled with 'Platform Overloaded' alarms and cutouts occurring when the platform contains a normal load or even when completely empty. This issue is typically caused by a drift in the Load Cell sensor calibration, physical damage to the load cell structure, or wiring faults in the platform-end electronics.

Symptoms

  • Red overload warning light flashes at the platform and ground consoles
  • An intermittent or solid high-volume buzzer sounds at the platform
  • All boom and drive functions are completely disabled except for emergency recovery
  • Fault code 4-4 or related load pins display actively on the hand-held analyzer

Possible Causes

  • Debris, gravel, or packed mud lodged in the physical gap of the load protection frame
  • Internal shift or damage to the dual strain-gauge load pins/cells
  • Loss of calibration memory within the GCM relative to the platform basket weight
  • Damaged load cell sensor cable run or corroded platform junction box terminals

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. 1
Inspect Platform Frame for Physical Obstructions
Examine the dynamic mechanical platform support structure. Carefully clear away any foreign material, concrete splatters, or physical obstructions lodged between the floating seat bracket and the structural arm.
  2. 2
Verify Load Cell Power and Signal Resistance
Disconnect the platform's load cell sensor plug. Measure terminal resistance with the DMM. Read signal output lines to check for any internal short circuits or completely severed coil paths within the load cell cluster.
  3. 3
Check Live Load Cell Data via Analyzer
Insert the JLG Analyzer in the diagnostic link. Navigate to 'Diagnostics > Sensors > Load Cell'. Read raw voltage or weight measurements. If values read full capacity or blank out, suspect a failed sensor pin.
  4. 4
Perform Full Load Cell Calibration Sequence
Place the machine on flat, level ground. Empty the platform basket of all tools and personal gear. Initiate the load sensor calibration procedure through the analyzer. Access standard settings, apply exact weights as instructed by technical specifications, and safe-record values.

Common Repairs

  • Replacing damaged platform load cell pin assemblies
  • Performing zero-load and span-load cell calibrations with certified weights
  • Replacing the platform junction terminal box wiring components

Safety Precautions

  • Never perform a load calibration with arbitrary weight counts. Certified calibration weights must be used as per manufacturer specifications (usually 500 lbs / 1000 lbs equivalent inputs).
  • Do not stand inside the platform or touch the structural platform frame while the controller recalibrates its base zero point.

Required Tools

  • JLG Machine Analyzer Tool
  • Digital Multimeter (DMM)
  • Certified Calibration Weights (up to 500/1000 lbs as specified)
  • Standard Hand Tools
