JLG 600AJ High-Speed Drive Cutout / Limit Switch Failure

Symptoms

• The lift travels at minimal speed when the boom is fully stowed
• No high-engine RPM is active during drive commands with stowed boom
• Dangerously high travel speed is available with the platform raised high
• Diagnostic lights or analyzer report constant boom extended/upwards switch errors

Possible Causes

• Stuck, bent, or physically damaged spring plunger on the boom-stowed limit switch
• Corrosion or short-circuit inside the mechanical limit switch contact casing
• Inaccurate mechanical striker pad adjustment location on the rising arm linkages
• Severed 12V electrical feed or signal return wire in the main boom box harness

   Locate the limit switches on the main turntable pivot pins and mid-riser links. Check for contact with physical alignment blocks. Clean mud, grease, and inspect the spring-loaded plunger pin for correct spring-back travel.

   Remove the electrical cover from the suspect limit switch. Measure voltage across input and output contacts. The switch should supply a solid 12V DC return signal to the GCM when compressed, and open circuit (0V) when expanded.

   Plug in the JLG diagnostic device. Access diagnostic path: 'Diagnostics > Sensor Inputs > Limit Switches'. Elevate the boom and verify the state transitions of 'Elevation Switch' and 'Telescope Switch' from closed to open.

   Test Limit Switch Mechanical Alignment Trigger Zones

   Adjust position of mounting brackets. Ensure the striker plate contacts the limit switch switch roller exactly at the stowed transition point, making sure the actuator rod is travel compressed at least 1/4 inch but not bottomed out completely.
